DETOXIFY YOUR MIND

Before discussing the importance of a nontoxic diet to purify the body, we must mention the importance of mental detoxification to purify the mind and spirit. We can improve our energy and outlook on life by cleansing the body of negitive emotions and by focusing on forgiveness and healing rather than resentment and revenge. In many cases, the physical detoxification of the body can reinforce the mental detoxification of the spirit-just as purifying the mind can speed healing of the body and improve overall health.
This mind-body link was well known to our ancestors. It was common practice for African medicine men or shamans to use drumming, fasting and sweat baths as part of their healing process. Fasting not only detoxified the body, but it also hepled to induce states of inspiration and bring forth mystical experiences for the fasting tribal member.
While short-term periods of detoxification, several days to a week, can help improve you health and mood, longer-term or repeated detoxification sessions can help transform your life. Physically, detoxification can clear congestion and prevent disease, and emotionally, it can allow us to experience spiritual transformation and clarity or purpose in our lives. After detox, the body and spirit have been cleansed and made more open to the experience of love and hope and more prepared to replace negative lifestyle and eating habits with healthier one.

THE DETOX DIET

When we mention detoxification to our patients, many of them think of a prolonged (and uncomfortable) water fast. While water fasting can be a powerful tool for detoxification, it is too extreme for many people and it is not the best choice for everyone.
Still, to clean out your body, you must clean up your diet. The better and more healthful your overall diet, the easier it will be to cleanse your system and keep it clean. If your diet has been less than ideal, do not despair: Instead, detoxify and then modify your diet on a more permanent basis.
In essence, any dietary changes you make that will speed elimination can be said to be part of a program of detoxification. You can start by making subtle changes in your approach to eating. There are several degrees of detoxification based on the extent of the dietary changes you are willing and able to make at the time.

       • Make simple changes in your eating habits.
       • Limit your diet to fresh fruits and vegetables and whole grains.
       • Eat only raw fruits and vegetables.
       • Drink only fruit and vegetable juices.
       • Drink only water.
